Help Your Small Business Save Money- FedEx Discounts

Help your business save money is the key to survival these days. Here’s a great way to do that! If you’re a member of your local chamber of commerce or the US Chamber of Commerce you are eligible for up to a 30% discount on packages you send via FedEx.

I just became a member of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce who sent out an email introducing the FedEx discount. Here are the steps to help your small business save money:

Step 1: Check with your local chamber and see if they’re part of the program. If they are not, you can join the U.S. Chamber of Commerce which IS a part of the program. If you ship at least one package a month, it will be worth it.

Step 2: After you’ve joined your chamber, call FedEx at 1-800-MEMBERS (1-800-636-2377) and ask for the discount as a chamber member.

Step 3: The FedEx rep will ask you a series of questions. If you already have a FedEx account, it will take less time. If not, they’ll open a new account for you. Be patient. It’s a great way to help your small business save money in the hundreds or thousands of dollars per year.

Step 4: The next time you ship, go to www.fedex.com, sign into your account, click on “Prepare A Shipment” from the homepage. It will ask for the ship-to address and method of payment. Follow the prompts until you see a shipping label pop up on your screen.

Step 5: Print out your shipping label which will have a bar code on it. Check the label to make sure all the ship-to information is correct.

Step 6: Bring your package to FedEx. Put it in an envelope or softpack. Slip the shipping label you printed out at home in one of those clear, see-through sleeves you paste on the envelope or package you’re sending. It has self-adhesive so no Elmer’s needed.

Step 7: Give your package to the smiling clerk behind the counter.

You’re done! By printing out the scannable label from your office computer, your discount increased from 20% to 30% for most overnight packages. This small business tip will also help your small business save money on international shipments.

If a package costs $30 to ship overnight and you get a 30% discount, you just helped your business save money that really adds up! Imagine saving $10 on every shipment? If you ship once a week, that’s $500 a year.
